The Village of Fremont is your first glimpse of beautiful Waupaca County while traveling up the Wolf River. Fremont is a small, charming village of just over 700 residents, thousands flock here every year in May to experience what the locals call "May Madness." This phenomenon makes Fremont well known as "The White Bass Capital of the World" during the spring spawn it is not uncommon for fishermen to take home over 2000 fish during a single week of fishing. The Village of Fremont was incorporated in March 1882 and became the home of dairy farmers, cheese makers, loggers and clammers, who supplied shells to two button factories in the area.
The Village boasts many attractions for vacationers. Lodging accommodations that include hotel/motel rooms, housekeeping cottages, resorts and campgrounds. Dining choices include a variety of small inviting diners to taverns serving pizza and burgers. Fremont has several beautiful supper clubs for a romantic evening or family dining. The large majority of Fremont's dining establishments and taverns offer boat parking on the Wolf River.
In and around Fremont you will find challenging golf courses, horseback riding, miniature golf and numerous antique and gift shops. Don't forget a visit to the local cheese factory for some fresh cheese curds and other Wisconsin treats. Animal Haven Zoo offers an up close look at lions, tigers, cougars and mountain goats. Bring your bicycle to explore the miles of biking trails through woods, wetlands and farms.
The Webfooters, a State & National award winning water ski show team performs on the river in downtown Fremont every Wednesday and Sunday at 6:30pm. The team will take your breath away with stunts such as barefooting, pyramids, helicopters, and much more. You can watch from The Webfooters very own grandstand on Wolf River Drive or anchor your boat on the east side of the river and take in the show.
Partridge Lake, located on the west side of Fremont, is the location of the public beach as well as the popular "rock wall". Here pleasure boaters anchor to swim, sun bathe and enjoy the company of other boaters. The sand beach offers charcoal grills, picnic tables, a picnic shelter, and dock. The swimming area is roped off to allow swimming safe from boaters.
So as you can see, Fremont has much to offer to families, fishermen and everyone in between. We look forward to welcoming you to our summer get away and should you need anything to make your stay even better please contact the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce at info@travelfremont.com.
